Puerto Vallarta
Puerto Vallarta is a municipality and tourist city in the state of Jalisco, Mexico, and is located in the Banderas Bay on the Pacific Ocean. In 2003, Puerto Vallarta had an estimated population of 165,800 people. It is the second most important economic area in the state of Jalisco and it is the third most important port of Mexico. Currently it is one of the most visited areas of the country and boasts wonderful five star hotels that host more than five million tourists a year. Tourism is one of the principal factors for the economic development of this municipality. Puerto Vallarta offers its inhabitants and visitors a great number of beaches in addition to its impressive natural beauty and historical monuments and art works which attract many national and foreign tourists. Tourism is well developed in Puerto Vallarta, as the municipality also boasts archaeological and ecological areas as well as mountains with beautiful scenery, making the area very attractive for this type of economic activity. What makes Puerto Vallarta different from Cancun (another important tourist destination in Mexico) is that it was a traditional village before becoming an international tourist destination.
Mexico
Mexico is a federal republic formed by 32 federal entities that take up the meridional part of North America. In agreement with the current Mexican Constitution, the official name of the country is the United Mexican States and the capital of all of the federal powers is Mexico City, whose territory has been designated as Distrito Federal (Federal District).
The country’s territory extends north until the United Status; to the east until the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea; in the southeast until Belize and Guatemala; and to the West until the Pacific Ocean. The surface area of Mexico occupies nearly 2 million square kilometres. This large territory is home to 103 million people, which makes it the largest Spanish-speaking country, although Spanish is not the only language spoken in Mexico. Numerous indigenous languages are spoken throughout the country and are recognized as national languages by the Mexican state. The history of this territory dates back to more than 30 thousand years, a time in which many different cultures lived, including the Mayan culture. The Mayan city of Chichén-Itzá is one of the new Seven Wonders of the World.
